Most people get involved in affiliate marketing by signing up to a programme that will teach them how. And it's a good move - having an e-book or similar that will take you through everything you need to do can be invaluable. I know I found it so.
But here's where most people make a big mistake. Instead of doing their research, coolly comparing products and prices and trying to work out which is best for them, they buy the first product they come across. Why? Is the sales pitch really that convincing? Can't you pause just a few hours before giving your money away?
Like with anything else, it's worth taking your time to decide which product is really right for you. You're much less likely to end up wasting your money: and you'll quickly find that some affiliate marketing programmes are half the price of others - and twice as useful.
The first thing to do is work out what you want. Do you want to make a quick buck? Spend several years building a long-term income? Do you want a website, or do you think it sounds like too much hassle? Are you hoping to make enough that you can give up your job, or do you just want a bit of extra money on the side?
Wealth-making programmes all offer different things, and you want to make sure that you choose the one that offers what you want. If you don't want a website, make sure that the product you choose clearly states that you can do without one. If you only want to make a bit of extra money on the side, why not consider doing paid surveys instead of affiliate marketing - they tend to involve less initial investment and less risk.
Finding products to compare is the next challenge. A simple Google search is one option, especially if you try searching slightly different phrases. You could also search for a site that reviews money-making opportunities - although be aware that many make their money through affiliate schemes, and that the more professional their sales-pitch sounds, the more likely it is that they exist to make money off you, not help you.
While comparing the websites, try not to get carried away by the sales pitch. Look at what they actually say. Reading in a analytical frame of mind will doubtless help you remain sceptical about what they claim. Reading them this way will also make you more likely to spot scams.
It's also important to take your time. While a product may sound fantastic the first time you read about it, a second read might reveal the flaws - like the fact that however good their sales pitch, they don't actually offer very much.
Too many people waste their money on wealth-making products that end up being of no help. Don't be one of those people. Compare different products, take your time, and don't get carried away by sales pitches - you'll be much more likely to end up a success.
